This key project, supported by the Horizon Europe programme, was prepared in 2023. The aim of the project is to improve the crisis management capability in case of biotoxin incidents in Europe. EMBRACE will focus on the operationalization of scientific and clinical knowledge on biotoxins and will build on existing doctrines in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). The result will be to supplement existing measures through the development of innovative solutions and protocols designed to address the specific problems associated with biotoxin incidents.
EMBRACE will create a thriving and sustainable community that offers comprehensive coverage of all phases of disaster response, from initial diagnosis and the difficult task of deciding whether to declare an emergency, to deployment and crisis management, to forensic investigation of the incident.
This ambitious vision will be realized by establishing collaborative mechanisms to improve timely decision-making and provide effective access to widely dispersed knowledge and expertise from different sectors, supported by a carefully planned program of standardization and valorisation to ensure cross-sector and cross-border interoperability.
