The project GARNET - call HORIZON-CL3-2024-DRS-01 was successfully submitted on November 20, 2024. GARNET addresses the critical need for enhanced preparedness and resilience in managing NaTech (Natural Hazard Triggered Technological) disasters, which pose significant risks to nfrastructure, economies, and communities across Europe. GARNET’s objectives include conducting a comprehensive NaTech gap analysis and developing a Vulnerability Risk Assessment Framework, and aligning Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with EU directives such as Seveso III and the Sendai Framework.
GARNET aims to bridge gaps in current practices by integrating advanced technologies, including AI-driven risk models, UAVs with thermal imaging, private 5G communication networks, and custom-designed wearables for first responders, for a more efficient, cross-sectoral and cross-border collaboration. These goals will be achieved through the creation of an integrated Command, Control, and Information Sharing (C2IS) platform, facilitating real-time data sharing, situational awareness, and resource coordination. A vulnerability assessment tool for NaTech disasters and societal resilience frameworks, like ReSVI-NaTech, will ensure that tools are inclusive and address the needs of at-risk populations.
